...What do water snails eat? Most water snails eat algae or freshwater aquatic plants such as anarchis or elodea. In a new tank the algae won't be there unless you expose it to some sunlight. Just don't expose it directly or it might get too hot. Algae growth happens naturally anyway.

Water snails are one of the easiest creatures to keep alive. Just don't put too much aquarium salt in the tank with them. They eat just about anything and especially like all of your favorite ornamental plants so to keep them happy just feed any kind of fish food and they also eat ditreous and when algae forms, will eat it too.
